Harbour Bridge and Opera House are the architecture marvels of the modern world and icon of the Sydney and Australia. Millions of overseas and local tourists flock to the city and all they want is to capture the best shots of the Bridge and Opera House. Being a fan of landscape photography, I have explored many locations over few years to capture best of its views and going to share them below. These locations are easy accessible but for best photos dawn or dusk are the best timings.
With Opera House in the background, Luna Park at the left and city on the right and both end pylon in the view, Henry Lawson Reserve at the end of Blues Point Road, North Sydney is undoubtedly the best place to photoshoot Harbour and its icon. Not advisable for morning shoot as harsh sun is in the background but one of the best places to photograph in evening or night.
Mrs Macquarie’s Chair in the Royal Botanic Garden is the best place to photoshoot Harbour in the morning. From this location, the Opera is in the front covering a pylon of Harbour Bridge but the photo provide a spectacular looks with North Sydney high rise on right and City on the left. The place is good to shoot at night as well.
You wont realise the beauty and strength of the bridge until you are standing under the bridge. Hickson Road just provide the best access point to walk under the bridge as it crosses Harbor. Its an amazing place as you can photoshoot bridge from under and Luna Park just across the Harbour and if you walk toward the city, you can shoot Opera house as well from across the water.
If you want to capture city in the front and Harbour bridge in the background then you have to walk a bit on the Cahill Expressway Walkway. This walkway goes adjacent to Cahill Expressway and leads to harbour Bridge. Access the walkway from Circular Quay and start walking towards Harbour Bridge. After a short walk you will reach where George Street reaches Historic Circular Quay and Harbour Bridge in the background. You will see picture from this location in many magazines.
